Issa Rae is adding to her business ventures with a new company, Ensemble, to connect brands with diverse creators. The company seeks to attract ad spending by connecting brands with a network of 50 up-and-coming creators, including Leo Gonzalez, Mark Phillips, and Drew Afualo. Ensemble is separate from Rae's media and entertainment company, Hoorae Media, which was formed in 2020 out of Issa Rae Productions. In addition to Rae's TV and film production label, Hoorae encompasses a marketing arm, Fête; a management company, ColorCreative; and an audio division, Raedio. "We want Ensemble to be seen as a general market company," McKay said.

Dylan Mulvaney won the 2023 Streamy Award for Breakout Creator. The trans creator may have been referring to her Bud Light ad campaign that has been overshadowed by conservative protests. Mulvaney took home the award for breakout creator at the Sunday night award ceremony, beating out TikTok it girl Alex Earle and Jake Shane — a.k.a. Conservative critics called for a boycott of the Bud Light brand, and LGBTQ+ advocates called on Bud Light to make clear its support for the LGBTQ+ community. The Bud Light controversy may be dying down: Bud Light sales took a hit in the months following the April post, but are now showing signs of a rebound.

YouTube is taking back the reins from TikTok as the official title sponsor of VidCon, the biggest convention for social media creators and their fans. From 2013-2019, YouTube served as the primary partner of VidCon, which veteran YouTubers John and Hank Green created. Many on the featured creators roster, such as Charli D’Amelio and Khaby Lame, got their big breaks on TikTok, not YouTube. “We are thrilled to have them return as the title sponsor to help drive our mission of putting digital culture and its creators center stage. “The unique relationship and trust between YouTube creators, their fans and the digital industry is what sets our platform apart,” Stanford said in the statement.

On Tuesday, Tate tweeted at Thunberg, referring to his “33 cars” and their “enormous emissions.”Thunberg responded on Wednesday, making a joke about Tate’s genitals. After Tate’s arrest, posts quickly went viral, speculating that the pizza boxes in the video had been an important factor in locating Tate. On Twitter, many responded to Tate’s days-old Twitter feud with Thunberg with jokes about the interaction and Tate’s arrest. In the video, Afualo said she saw the news about Tate’s arrest.

VidCon, the fan and industry event producer celebrating YouTubers and other digital creators, unveiled the first round of featured creators confirmed to its flagship convention in Anaheim, Calif., in June 2023. Additional details on programming, speakers, partner activations, and more featured creators confirmed to attend will be announced in the coming months. VidCon also has opened ticket sales for the 2023 Anaheim confab, with more info at this link. In 2022, VidCon returned to an in-person convention in Anaheim after a two-year break because of COVID. VidCon was founded by veteran YouTube creators John and Hank Green (the Vlogbrothers) and was acquired by Paramount Global in 2018.
